WHY SCHOOLS?

Here's just a few reason why a HIV org is building primary schools: 

• Women with eight or more years of schooling were up to 87% less likely to have sex before the age of 18 compared to women with no schooling.
• If every child received a complete primary education, at least 7 million new cases of HIV could be prevented in a decade.
• For every additional year of schooling a child is 10% less likely to contract HIV.

The Need

Education at a primary school level in Malawi is free, yet many children go without classes for many months of the year. Crumbling infrastructure prevents children from attending school inside classrooms, so they're forced outside, under trees... but during the rainy season classes cannot be taught outside.
So, school stops for thousands of children.

How we help.

Together! ACT Now; Malawi Primary School Initiative starts by repairing school roofs so that children can receive an education, no matter what the weather brings. Each selected school will receive a new roof based on a standard template design. We adapt the template to the particular need of each building and provide building material, designs, instructions, lots of motivation, and follow up with the community members. This follows in line with Together! ACT Now’s vision of being a conduit for society to help their own community. We create opportunities for communities to come together and achieve a common goal—in this case, to resurrect a school for their children.
