Together, our Board of Directors ACT Now to see our organization's vision of a just, prosperous, healthy Malawi, free from the burdens of HIV come to life.

You've landed here because you want to make a difference on a larger level. To express your interest, please read the information below and then fill out the application.

The Together! ACT Now (T!AN) board meets once every two months for one hour. The Board of Directors (BOD) will hear reports from the Executive Director and Country Director and will help provide advice, guidance and vote on the direction of the organization, based on recommendations from staff. With the support and guidance of our staff, our BOD's also engage in fundraising. We welcome a diverse background of applicants.

Understanding the Time Commitment
We want to make sure we are upfront with expectations. Our BOD's offer their time freely and our gratitude is endless, so we don't expect a lot. Our meetings happen over zoom. Here is our typical annual expectations:

• One hour board meetings every three months
  
• Potential additional sub-committee meetings (If you sit on a sub-committee)​

We have an expectation that you will attend at least 66% of the board meetings. There may be small tasks that happen outside of the board meeting, but they are not time intensive. 

The board member is responsible for:

1. I will interpret the organization’s work and values to the community, represent the organization, and act as a spokesperson.
2. In turn, I will interpret our constituencies’ needs and values to the organization, speak out for their interests, and on their behalf, hold the organization accountable.
3. I will attend at least 66% percent of board meetings and committee meetings and do my best to attend physical events in my area.
4. No later than Thanksgiving of each year, I will make a  financial contribution at a level that is meaningful to me, but that is no less than $350. Or I will fundraise for this amount. 
5. I will actively participate in one or more fundraising activities.
6. I will excuse myself from discussions and votes where I have a conflict of interest.
7. I will stay informed about what’s going on in the organization. I will ask questions and request information. I will participate in and take responsibility for making decisions on issues, policies, and other matters. I will not stay silent if I have questions or concerns.
8. While I am a member of this board, I will make every effort to vote in every public election.
9. I agree that diversity, equity, and inclusion are important pillars that not only hold Together! ACT Now up but are the foundation for what make us great. While being a board member, I will uphold our values and question where they can be made better.
10. I will work in good faith with staff and other board members as partners toward achievement of our mission.
11. If I do not fulfill these commitments to the organization, I will expect the board president to call me and discuss my responsibilities with me.

In turn, the organization will be responsible to me in the following ways:

1. I will be sent bi-annual financial reports and an update of organizational activities that allow me to meet the “prudent person” standards of the law.
2. Opportunities will be offered to me to discuss with the executive director and the board president the organization’s programs, goals, activities, and status; additionally, I can request such opportunities.
3. The organization will help me perform my duties by keeping me informed about issues in the industry and field in which we are working and by offering me opportunities for professional development as a board member.
4. Board members and staff will respond in a straightforward fashion to questions that I feel are necessary to carry out my fiscal, legal, and moral responsibilities to this organization. Board members and staff will work in good faith with me toward achievement of our goals.
5. If the organization does not fulfill its commitments to me, I can call on the board president and executive director to discuss the organization’s responsibilities to me.

Ending the AIDS epidemic

Together! ACT Now (T!AN) removes these access barriers by bringing all needed services directly to the village. This includes HIV educational theatre, in-village HIV testing, and mobile medicine clinics. All offered for free.

Utilizing Theatre

T!AN utilizes theatre and education in remote villages to reduce HIV stigma and discrimination as well as:

• Empower Malawians to know their HIV status
• Provide information on how to prevent spreading the virus
• Provide education and access to HIV medicine
